Seattle is a city that is in the state of Washington and is known as the birthplace of Grunge music and for its thriving coffee companies such as Starbucks and Tully's. Anyone who visits Seattle will be astounded at the amazing waterfront it boasts which is great for holiday photos and overlooking from Alki Point.
Seattle is well known for its performing arts and visitors who enjoy musicals in particular should book in the 5th Avenue Theatre and take in a performance. McCaw Hall is also a great place to go if you would like to see the Pacific Northwest Ballet or the Seattle Opera, so make sure you check it out whilst you are there.
Music is one thing that Seattle is well known for and there are many grunge bands who's roots lay there. These include Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and probably the most well known of all - Nirvana, who's front man Kurt Cobain tragically killed himself in his Seattle home in 1994. Today fans still visit to pay tribute to the man who touched so many lives with his musical talents. Another of Seattle's famous sons is Jimi Hendrix who was born in the city and who's statue is located in the city centre.
Fans of films will want to visit Seattle in May or June as the city holds the Seattle International Film Festival that runs for 24 days and is a celebration of films and film making. As well as this there are numerous other events which occur annually which include Sakura-Con which is a anime festival and the Penny Arcade Expo which is a gaming event and is great for children and those of you who want to relive some of the arcade games from your past - it is great fun and well worth taking a look at.
Art fans can visit the Henry Art Gallery which has been open for almost 100 years. Or why not go to the Seattle Art Museum which is home to the 'Art Ladder' which is a marble staircase with statues and busts placed at intervals along it and is one of the most unique exhibitions in the world. Make sure that you take your camera to get some snaps of this amazing staircase.
Maybe you would like to get back to nature if that is the case you should spend a day at the Woodland Park Zoo which has a fantastic selection of animals from around the globe which children will adore. The Seattle Aquarium is also great fun for all the family and has some interactive exhibits that allow you to find out more about aquatic life. Another trip that is very popular is the Seattle Underground Tour which features some of the areas that existed before the Great Fire.
