Kansas City is the biggest city in Missouri and is often known as the City of Fountains due to the fact that there are over 200 of them there. Kansas City is not just home to lots of fountains though, there are many different things to do whilst in this bustling city. If you enjoy walking and taking the sights then you will just love Kansas City. With over 130 miles over boulevards and parks you will find yourself astounded at just how much is packed into one place.
Swope Park is twice as large as Central Park in New York and includes a wildlife rescue centre, an amphitheatre, two golf courses, picnic areas dotted around and even a zoo! In fact you need a day or more to fully explore and enjoy this beautiful slice of nature.
Those of you who enjoy the performing arts will be pleased to know that Kansas City is home to several production companies such as the Starlight Company and the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. There are also comedy nights at the famous Stanford’s Comedy Club and other venues throughout the city.
If you would like to do some shopping whilst you are in Kansas City you should head to the Crown Centre which offers goods at a range of different prices from designer to lower end products. There are also restaurants and a cinema in the complex so you if you are with anyone who doesn’t like shopping they will still be entertained.
Fans of art will want to journey down to the Crossroads Art District which is home to several galleries and exhibitions as well as bars and restaurants. In fact if you go to Kansas City in August you will be able to enjoy the Crossroads Music Festival which has been held there since 2005.
For something a little different that children really enjoy is the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City which has a large collection of toys and miniature scenes. Visitors to this fantastic museum are taken on a journey around the world and through time all in miniature, you will be astounded at the fine detail and hours of workmanship that have gone into crafting the exhibits here. Children will also enjoy Worlds of Fun which is an amusement park that is located in Kansas City and has plenty of white knuckle rides to keep them entertained all day long. Entertainment for older visitors comes in the form of one of four casinos which include Ameristar Kansas City and Argosy Kansas City - try one out you never know your luck might be in!
No trip to Kansas City would be complete without sampling some of the famous Kansas City Style BBQ. If you like BBQ’s you will love this - just watch your waistline as you might not be able to stop at just one portion! Don’t worry if you are not a BBQ fan there are plenty of other cuisines available and you will be able to find somewhere for even the fussiest of eaters.
