Chicago is situated on the Great Lakes and is a large city with well over 3 million inhabitants and is the perfect place for a trip as there is so much to see and do there. As Chicago is close to the Great Lakes no trip there would be complete without visiting Lake Michigan which is a lake so big that it is larger than Croatia! Whilst you are there you can take a walk along the lake, indulge in a spot of fishing or even just relax and have picnic, as well as taking some photos of the most stunning scenery in the area.
Chicago is also home to a large sporting community and has several major sports teams which include the Bears, Bulls, White Sox and Cubs. So why not take in a game or two and experience the thrill of being in the crowd as the home team wins!
Perhaps you like to treat yourself while you are away from home if that is the case the Magnificent Mile will suit you. Full of stores and boutiques that have everything you would want from a shopping experience - make sure you don’t forget your credit card or you will be going home empty handed.
Fans of the theatre will love Chicago as there are so many theatres and shows for you to attend. These range from musicals, opera, classical music, jazz and much more. In fact you can think of any kind of performing arts and the chances are you will be able to find it in Chicago.
For a day out that mixes shopping, eating out, amusements and museums you should head for Navy Pier which is home to the most eclectic range of entertainment and dining. For those of you with a head for heights there is the Ferris wheel that is situated to the North of Grant Park and is right on the waterfront. This 150 foot high wheel offers amazing panoramic views of the city from it’s peak and is ideal for taking some breath taking photos from.
If you have an interest in Egyptology the Oriental Institute will be one place that you will want to stop off at. Inside there is a huge array of ancient Egyptian artefacts and antiquities from the East, make sure you have plenty of time to go round and see everything. This is just one of the many museums that are in Chicago which include the Chicago History Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry.
When it is time to refuel then you should try a slice or two of the famous Chicago deep dish pizza, it will soon become a firm favourite. If that is not your thing you will be amazed at the different kinds of eateries that are in abundance in Chicago. These guys like their cuisine so much in fact that every July there the Taste of Chicago festival, or 'The Taste' as it is known to locals. Go there and enter a world of amazing food and drink and forget about the diet.
Chicago really is the place to go if you love to get out and about, see the sights and really experience life in a large American city that is larger than life!
